Stereo Phoenix serviced Soundcraftsmen A5002
-all new top quality audio electrolytic capacitors
-new 4 large power caps increased capacity and voltage
-replaced film capacitors on amp boards
-replaced ceramic capacitors on amp boards, used mica in audio path
-replaced carbon resistors in audio path with metal film
-all transistors replaced with modern upgrades
-matched upgraded input transistors
-replaced silicone insulators with mica on TO3 transitors, and used hi-performance CPU thermal grease
-replaced class H darlington transistors with upgraded spec units
-installed C-13 power cord socket, and included 14awg cord
-installed new speaker switches
-cleaned pots. and switches
-new panel screws
-set bias current and checked voltages
-tested THD and specs, set final bias, and monitored temps
-played on speakers and monitored temps
-repainted sheetmetal
-installed new 3M BumpOn rubber feet
This amp got the full treatment with all new electrolytic capacitors, new audio transistors, and upgraded resistors.
The capacitors in the audio section are Nichicon audio capacitors. A mix of 'Muse' and 'Fine Gold' and 'LK' series. All film and ceramic capacitors in the amp circuits were replaced, with ceramics in the audio path, upgraded to silver mica.
The input differential transistors are upgraded modern transistors from ON Semi/Fairchild, made specifically for audio frequency and low noise. Much more linear in the current range that's used than the originals are. All transistors in the amp are new except the temp sensors because they are calibration specific. The output transistors are upgraded transistors from On semi/Fairchild that exceed the originals in many specifications from sound and linearity, to power dissipation. They also got new mica insulators and high performance CPU thermal grease.
Most of the expensive electronic parts were replaced and the components that are in the audio path. This means this amp is as fresh sounding as you will find one and has the potential to be even better performing and more durable than stock due to the list of upgraded parts.
